The dramatic exit you couldn't pull off in real life.

Download for Mac

macOS 14.6+ (Sonoma) · M1 Pro+ required

How it works

Every window deserves a fiery breakup.

No setup. No config. Just one button, a very satisfying fire animation and the crackling sound of closure.

Step 01

Install & launch

Drop Chili Mode into your Applications folder and open it. It lives quietly in the background.

Step 02

Hit the red button

Click the close button on any Mac window. Chili Mode intercepts it and the fun begins.

Step 03

Watch it burn

The window chars and curls like burning paper while little chilies dance in the flames. Then it's gone. The closure your therapist won't give you.

The most fun you'll have closing a window. Ever.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Will Chili Mode void my Mac warranty?
No. It's a regular macOS app — it doesn't touch hardware, kernel extensions, or system files. Your warranty is safe. Your emotional damage after burning a window is your own responsibility.
Does it work on Intel Macs?
Not yet. Chili Mode currently requires an M1 Pro chip or newer. Intel support is on our radar but not confirmed for a specific release.
Does it actually close the window?
Yes — after the burn animation completes, the window closes normally. All your data is safe.
Will it trigger during normal typing or clicks?
No. Chili Mode only activates on the traffic-light close button (the red dot). Everything else works exactly as you'd expect.
Does it drain my battery?
The app is idle almost all the time. The animation runs for ~2–3 seconds per window close and is GPU-accelerated, so the battery impact is negligible.
Can I add my own sounds or effects?
Not in v1 — but custom sounds and burn skins are both on the roadmap. Check back soon.
Can I get a refund?
If Chili Mode doesn't work on your machine, reach out at pau@chilimode.com within 14 days and we'll sort it out.
Why does it ask for screen recording permission?
When you first launch Chili Mode, macOS will ask for Screen Recording permission. This sounds scarier than it is. The app needs it purely to detect which window is in front of your screen at the moment you click the close button — so it can position the burn animation perfectly on top of it. No video is recorded, no screenshots are taken, and nothing ever leaves your Mac. Chili Mode cannot see, store, or transmit your screen content. It's just how macOS works when an app needs to know what's on screen.
Is there a Windows version?
No, and honestly Windows users are probably used to things burning unintentionally already. macOS only for now.
